I went to the Montparnasse cemetery yesterday. It is one of Paris’s “Cities of the Dead” and I am sort of planning a piece with crosses – like a Vanitas. Between all the gray cement and granite family mausoleums I saw a splash of bright color – the most beautiful tombstone ever, and into the cement was carved the following words:
Pour notre grand ami
mort trop tot
jeune, aime, et beau
10 juin 52 – 21 sept 89

for our great friend
who died to early
young, beloved and beautiful

According to it belongs to Ricardo Menon, a personal assistant to French sculptor Nicky de Saint Phalle, who designed the grave.
